You can now create custom timeframes when setting up automated rules in Madgicx!
Custom timeframes allow your automation to take action based on performance trends within periods that are not available under the common timeframe options in the Ads Manager (such as last week, last month, or today).
This way, you can adapt your automated rules to what really works for your business.
To add a custom timeframe, head over to Automation in the left-side menu of the app and select Custom Automation.
On the setup page, click on the Select time dropdown menu and choose the Create Custom Timeframe option:
A window will then pop up where you can create and save your preferred timeframe:
At the top, you can select either the Days or Hours tab, depending on what you want to create.
Then, simply drag the slider to fit the timeframe you want to use.
The name of the timeframe will automatically change as you move the slider, but you can edit it if you want.
Once done, just hit the Create Timeframe button at the bottom right corner of the window to save.
You can find all the custom timeframes you create in the same drop-down selection, under Custom time-frame:
To delete a custom timeframe, hover over the one you want to remove and click the trash icon that appears next to it:
You can also apply the new custom timeframes to any automated rule that already exists in your account.
Just go to Automation Overview under Automation in the left-side menu of the app.
Then, click the pen icon next to the automated rule you want to edit:
Likewise, you can incorporate customized timeframes into the automation templates available under Automation Strategies.
Just select the template you want to use:
And in the next window, edit the timeframe as needed:
Here are a couple of automated rules used by expert media buyers that you can also apply to your ad account:
1. PAUSING BASED ON THE WEEKLY ROAS TREND
Here, weβll pause an ad if its ROAS over the past week (last 7 days) is relatively low compared to its ROAS over the week before that (8-14 days ago).
To create this rule, head over to Custom Automation in the left-side menu of the app and select Ad Level:
On the setup page, you can create the first part of the rule by selecting the following items in the first three menus, respectively:
The trigger bar should look like this:
Then, on the right, click the option to switch to dynamic value:
This will open up a new selection where you can further define the next part of the rule:
Edit the value in the first box and type in 0.75.
Then, select ROAS (All) in the trigger dropdown menu.
Afterward, click the Select time dropdown and choose the option to create a custom timeframe. Under the Days tab, drag the two slider points to cover 8-14 days (as shown in the picture below):
Save the custom timeframe by clicking the Create Timeframe button. Once saved, you can then select it from the dropdown.
Finally, your trigger bar should look like this:
Note that the value at the end of the trigger bar is automatically updated by the system and cannot be edited. This dynamic value will change as your ROAS changes, of course.
When the rule is all set up, click the Next button in the top right corner of the page.
The next window will ask you to name the automation strategy you just made and select the ads you want to apply the rule to.
Once done, just click Launch, and it's good to go!
2. THE AD FATIGUE ALERT
This rule helps you combat ad fatigue by warning you of any ads with high frequency and down-trending CTR.
To create this rule, head over to Custom Automation and create a custom rule at the Ad Level (follow the same steps in Rule #1 above).
Once you reach the setup page, click on the task selection located at the top of the trigger bar to change the action:
Click on the drop-down menu and select Add to Name:
Once selected, youβll then need to type in the text you want to use:
This will prompt the automation to add such text to the name of your ads the moment they reach the frequency and CTR set - making them easily identifiable.
Note: you can change βAD FATIGUE ALERTβ to any other text you want to use for this rule.
To set up the first part of the rule, choose the following items in the first three drop-down menus of the trigger bar:
The trigger bar should look like this:
Then, head over to the right side of the bar and click the option to switch to dynamic value. Follow the steps to complete the first condition:
Your trigger bar should then look like this:
To factor in the frequency, click the plus icon next to the first condition:
Then, select Condition.
In the additional bar, select the options below in the corresponding drop-down menus:
The final rule should look like this:
Once done, click the Next button in the top right corner of the page.
The next window will ask you to name the automation strategy you just made and select the ads you want to apply the rule to.
Finally, click Launch, and you're done!
